New Years Resolutions

Welcome to 2021! This new year is almost a week old and it is time to reflect on the resolutions we made for our selves. How are we doing? Have we already decided that there are a couple of these that we are not going to peruse?

Food and our eating habits tend to be high on our list of resolutions, usually we plan to eat healthier, or less, or give up on certain things altogether. In general, we eat the same things without giving it much thought. We at Bear Creek Rubs feel that food should be more than a habit, it should be an adventure. Our rubs can help with that adventure.

Now that the holidays are over, if food figured in your resolutions, lets take a look a snacks. We eat snacks: when we are bored, watching TV, visiting with friends, to go to sleep, to stay awake, the list is quite long. Snacks are part of our daily routine so lets make when as health and appealing as possible. One of the ways to help our food resolution is to eat vegetables. They are good for us but tend to be boring. Raw vegetables are a great snack, but by themselves are not to exciting. Dips for raw vegetables can help. Most vegetable dips are based on sour cream and mayonnaise with the addition of various spices and possibly grated or powdered cheese. They are easy to prepare and keep well in the refrigerator for up to five days.

A basic vegetable dip: 1 Cup sour cream

1 Cup Mayonnaise

1 or 2 Tablespoons of one of our rubs. ( as you are mixing the ingredients, taste to determine the amount of spices that you prefer)

Mix all ingredients, cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours before using.

Sour cream should not be out of the refrigerator more than 2 hours. It is best

To remove a small amount at a time for your snack.

This recipe makes 16 servings.

A good way to encourage one’s self to use vegetables for snacks is to prepare them all at once. Divide them into “snack pack” by placing into plastic bags and keeping in the refrigerator.
